From 25 to 28 November, 2026, the Kick-off Meeting of IMPLANTEU took place in Barcelona. This is the first in-person gathering of the network of researchers, doctoral candidates and associated partners from 11 leading institutions and 7 European countries committed to advancing the science of embryonic implantation. Funded by the European Commission in the context of the Horizon MSCA (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions) programme, IMPLANTEU is a European initiative dedicated to training early-career researchers and deepening the understanding of implantation mechanisms in humans and animal models, with direct applications in reproductive health.
IMPLANTEU consortium brings together 11 leading institutions, including: Eugin Clinic, Leiden University, Ghent University, Università degli Studi di Milano, KU Leuven, Universitätsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf, Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), BiomimX® Srl, University of Graz, IMBA, University College Dublin and three partners: Politecnico di Milano, CEVA SANTE ANIMALE and Dawn-bio. The meeting was also honored to welcome the European Commission Project Officer, as well as two external advisors, Dr. Margherita Turco and Dr. John Aplin.
PhD candidates and institutional representatives will met to:
- Introduce their project’s objectives and initial work
- Strengthen collaboration across partner institution
- Define the scientific and training roadmap for the coming years
The program highlighted a rich and diverse agenda, including sessions on research ethics and integrity, scientific communication, embryonic development and cutting-edge implantation models. It also included presentations from the 13 doctoral researchers joining IMPLANTEU European Doctoral Network, along with collaborative workshops, round-table discussions and networking opportunities designed to foster interdisciplinary exchange. Participants enjoyed guided visits to the host facilities, offering a closer look at the environment where part of the project’s scientific work will unfold.
